In 2004 in Athens Anne Wafula Strike became the first woman to represent Kenya in wheelchair racing at the Paralympic Games. Born a healthy child in Kenya, Anne contracted polio at the age of two. She suffered discrimination and abuse in her village as people claimed her condition was a curse from God.
